Here we have collected all the common questions about our education and the association.
The autumn term 2017 required around 18.5 in grades or 1.35 on the university entrance exam. The IT industry is currently crying out for knowledgeable system scientists, which means that the education provides great opportunities for jobs directly after graduation. The latest admission statistics can be found at uhr.se.
No, everything is covered from scratch. The Uppsala System Scientists Association also arranges “programming cottages” where everyone gets help learning. Everyone should be able to start the program without prior knowledge. However, you always have the advantage of previous knowledge, so if you are interested, it is good to learn some basics of programming, for example in C#.
Mathematics C or Mathematics 3b/c at high school level is required. The program is not nearly as focused on mathematics as, for example, computer science; however, it is an advantage to have the logical thinking from mathematics. You are guaranteed to like the program even if you do not have a passion for mathematics.
Visual Studio, which is the software in which we code C# during the program, requires Windows. That said, you can log in to the school computers from home and access Windows that way, which means that even a Mac works great for studies. If you don't have your own computer, there is also access to computer rooms at Ekonomikum that are at our disposal for most of the day.
On Microsoft website you will find a basic course within C# that gives you an overview of what programming is all about, as well as a head start before the course in object-oriented programming starts!
Also Code Academy is a great site for learning the basics of programming!
Absolutely, we have lots of activities together! Among other things, we go to Åre every year at the beginning of the spring semester, have gasque once per semester, and a prog pub where we program and hang out in a more relaxed way at Nation.
How fun! The easiest thing to do is either email the committee you are interested in getting involved with and you will find out when the next meeting is. Contact details and more information about the different committees can be found under the tab "”the association” where the various committees' pages are located.
We strive to have good relationships with all teachers. However, if something is wrong, we can of course help you. Education Committee has regular meetings with those responsible for the quality of the studies; if you have any opinions, you are most welcome to express them.
Besides being great fun and guaranteed to make new friends (and free coffee), it's also a qualification that's guaranteed to help you in the future. Employers love engaged students!
A good way is to attend the guest lectures that the business committee organizes. Not only will you get a free lunch, you will also get an interesting insight into the lecturing company and a good chance to make contacts for the future.
Every year a fair for systems scientists is also arranged in Kista where you get a good opportunity to get to know potential future employers. Uppsala Systemvetare together with Uppsala University arranges free bus travel to this event.
Then just contact us and we will respond to the best of our ability! Send us an email at info@uppsalasystemvetare.se!
